Julia Reich presents her first solo exhibition Zu Hause in Düsseldorf at the Off-space Nilsson.

In her new collection consisting of large-scale paintings she reflected on the meaning of a home as a personal safe space and language of expression. Julia explores the concept of home as both sanctuary and self-expression. Her works invite us into intimate, imagined living spaces of female figures— spaces that shift fluidly between the familiar comfort of interior worlds and the surreal vastness of extraordinary environments: a home nestled deep in the jungle, beneath the surface of the sea, or along a sun-drenched shoreline.

Each scenario challenges the traditional idea of home as a fixed address. Instead, Julia asks: Can home be a feeling rather than a place? Is it rooted in geography, or can it move with us like a nomadic spirit?

Through these questions, the paintings celebrate the idea that feeling at home means feeling safe, seen, and grounded—no matter where we are.

The series also suggests a deeper connection between belonging and responsibility.

When we truly feel at home, we begin to care for our surroundings with greater awareness. A place we identify with becomes a space we protect, nurture, and preserve.

Julia’s signature palette comes alive through radiant neon orange, lush greens, and deep blues— evoking a vibrant joie de vivre—gently tempered by the delicate presence of pastel yellows and soft rose tones.

Ultimately, Julia’s work encourages us to rethink what home means in a changing world. It is a reflection on identity, sustainability, and the human need for both freedom and connection.
